What is CAPS

CAPS is short for Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist. Aging-in-place means remaining in one's home regardless of age, income, or ability. Most people do not want to leave their homes due to aging, illness or traumatic injury. The NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) RemodelorsTM Council, in collaboration with the AARP, NAHB Research Center, and NAHB Seniors Housing Council, developed this program to provide comprehensive, practical, market-specific information about working with older and maturing adults to remodel their homes for aging-in-place.

Why do I need a CAPS Builder/Remodeler/Contractor

The fact that these contractors invested their time and money to improve their capability in understanding the special needs of this market portrays a higher level of professionalism and expertise.

They have learned the technical knowledge to do the job right.

They have greater understanding of aging and disabled needs.
